Winona and Malcolm were best friends at HQ. From the moment they met, they spent their time recalling the old days in their previous homes, telling tales of countless adventures they had been on. Both pals enjoyed going to the spa together, drinking tea and eating biscuits. The day they got to model for their very special pictures, they knew it would soon be time to leave for new horizons. They worried they'd be separated, but knew it would most likely happen. Winona left first. "Estonia" said Charlotte, "You are going to Estonia". Winona did not know what it all meant, just that she had to say farewell to her dear friend Malcolm. When I first met Winona, she kept her eyes covered with hair, as to not show the sadness hiding deep inside them. Days passed, and she settled quickly, making new friends along the way. She told me about her best friend Malcolm and hoped he had found his very own home too. But Malcolm hadn't. Weeks passed, our days were filled with cuddles, long naps and tasty food: everything a hippo would need. But one day, a familiar box showed up on our doorstep. When I took it in, Winona wondered who her new friend would be, and if she'd perhaps recognize them. The box opened, and a very familiar face peaked out of it. "Malcolm! It's you!". Tears were shed, hugs exchanged, and the two buddies spent the rest of the day talking about what a crazy adventure life is.
As I read their poem once more, the last words make even more sense. It was as if Malcolm truly whispered "Thank you for choosing me". Welcome home Winona and Malcolm
